About the event

Get ready for 3 days of pure nature! We will be backpacking a 26 mile stretch of the Pennsylvania Mid-State trail. The beginning of the trail head will be located near Blackwell, Pennsylvania and we will come off the trail in Little Pine State Park. The trail consists of several semi-steep grades at the beginning of the trip, but smoothes out over the latter portion. Thick green moss covers most of the trail providing a wonderful cushion for the feet. We will pass several water features to include a hidden waterfall not known to many who have walked the trail. Towards the second half of the hike, we will come upon beautiful vistas that provide an endless view to Northern Appalachia. Main meals will also be provided but, additional trail snacks are at your responsibility. Along the trail we will stop to learn about local flora and fauna. We will try different wild edibles and talk about many different wild medicines. At night at camp we will work on different wilderness skills such as fire building, water purification, and basic trail camp knowledge.

Day-1

We will begin the trail at 8am and will be covering roughly 9 miles the first day. A couple uphill marches are on the route but, don't worry, the scenary will make up for it. We will come upon a couple water falls and one hidden waterfall that we like to call "Outlaw Falls" for it's incredible rock outcrop section. The trail winds through the forest and is covered with beautiful moss. Local wildlife is likely to be spotted to include the whitetail deer, wild turkey, and black bear. We will break for a light lunch around noon and give our feet a good rest beside the cold running mountain streams. As we continue we will visit a historic cabin just before reaching our camp spot for the night. Pitch a tent, hang a hammock, or rough it on a sleeping pad on the ground. Enjoy a beautiful view under the night stars.

Day-2

We will take off around 8 am after having a delicious breakfast under the rising sun. This day will cover around 9 miles and will be the beginning of some beautiful mountain top vistas that stretch the view for miles. Abundant wildlife and local flora/fauna are to be explored. As we pass huge boulder formations, we will stop for lunch and poke our heads around for a bit. Back to the trail by 1pm and we make our arrival at our next camp. A big hearty dinner meal and smores around a war campfire to end the day.

Day-3

We will take some time in the morning to talk and discuss what we learned and witnessed will on this adventure while sipping our coffee or tea. It will be a slower paced walk that day as we make our way to Little Pine State Park. We will pass many more vistas and a notoriously steep side trail called "The Panther." The trail will descend down into the parking area of the park where we will have a ride back to Blackwell and end our adventure.
